How Do I Know Which Sites Are Safe?

I just discovered SiteAdvisor, an online database that rates websites on how safe they are. It's quite easy to use. Just go to siteadvisor.com, enter the site you want to check, and a report will appear. This way, you'll find out what kind of e-mails that site sends, if its downloads contain malware, what other websites are linked to it, browsing annoyances (pop-ups, disabling of back button, etc.), and what other people feel about it.

Even better, for all you Firefox Fans, a downloadable extension is available. It creates a small indicator on the lower right of the status bar that shows the safety of the site you are currently on. And when you use one of the popular search engines it will place a SiteAdvisor rating indicator beside each result, allowing you to look before you leap.

Oh, and the site has recently released a report titled "The Safety of Internet Search Engines." Check it out!
